Why I Started Sistah Sips Society

come for the sips!

It all started with a personal desire for deeper connections — and a Facebook post.

I remember seeing recurring posts in a Facebook group where women, particularly over 30, shared how difficult it is to make friends as adults. I saw those posts a lot, and I knew that feeling all too well.

As a wine enthusiast for years, I often sat at wine tastings, surrounded by strangers, albeit lovely people, and wonder: Where’s the space for women like me? A space to learn, share, and celebrate — not just wine, but each other. While those spaces exist in some areas of Atlanta, they didn’t exist in my immediate community.

On a whim, a little over a week after my 44th birthday, I made the Facebook post above in that same group—and the rest, as they say, is history. That post led to the creation of what would become The Sistah Sips Society. Back then, it was simply called “For Women Who Love Wine”—because simplicity was key!

The response was overwhelming. Within weeks, we organized our first meetup in December 2023. Thirteen of us gathered at a cozy local wine bar and had the best time — talking, laughing, drinking wine, and seeing ourselves reflected in each other. As I sat there, I realized: This is what I had been longing for.

Wine has always been more than a drink to me – it’s a conversation starter, a bridge between people, and a means of celebration. But as much as I loved wine, I noticed something was missing: inclusivity, representation, and a true sense of community for women, especially women of color. That night, I renamed the group to reflect what I dreamed it could become: The Sistah Sips Society – where you come for the sips, but you stay for the sistahood.

This photo is from that very first meetup! Oh, what joy I feel knowing how far we’ve come.

What Sistah Sips Society Represents

At its core, Sistah Sips Society is about more than wine. It’s a celebration of sisterhood, empowerment, and exploration.

Whether we’re learning about a new wine region, supporting each other’s wellness journeys, or simply sharing laughs over a great bottle, it’s a reminder that we’re better together.

Through this community, we honor the richness of diversity in wine and life. I love hearing someone celebrate what they’ve learned through the group or share a new wine the group inspired them to try. But what touches me most are the stories of women who joined simply for the sisterhood – and stayed because they found it and discovered they actually like wine too.

Our Journey So Far

From our first gathering to partnering with organizations like 1 Million Madly Motivated Moms, every step of this journey has been filled with purpose and pride.

Together, we’ve celebrated birthdays, had fiercely competitive and wildly fun game nights, shared wine travels, explored wines from around the world, and built a community where every woman feels seen and valued.

A year later, we are 240+ Sistahs strong—and this is just the beginning.
